MESQUITE – A man is in jail facing several charges after a police chase early Wednesday morning.
Dallas police said an officer spotted the suspect in a car that had been reported stolen during a carjacking Tuesday evening. When the suspect ran a red light, the officer began the pursuit.
The chase came to an end on U.S. Highway 80 near the Interstate 30 split in Mesquite. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office used spike strips to flatten the suspect’s tires.
Once stopped, the suspect jumped out of the car and tried to run away, according to police. Officers were able to catch up to the suspect and place him under arrest.
During the takedown, a Dallas police officer suffered an injury to his arm and pepper spray was used on the suspect. He was treated at the scene and taken to jail.
Police believe the suspect used a toy or airsoft gun during the robberies.
